From No Choice to Choosing (w/audio)

In the beginning I was a blank page that others wrote on
In the beginning I was a blank canvas that others painted on
In the beginning I was in empty shelf that others put things on

That beginning was not of my choice
I didn’t pick my father nor my mother
What color I would be
the size of my lips and my nose
The height I would even grow
I had no choice
I had no choice who would share the same blood that I share
And surely, I didn’t choose who would love me
In the beginning…

The blank page I was got written on
My attitude was being shaped
I heard and saw things that I should
And certainly probably should not have
No one knew
they were scripting me
writing on me
conforming me to play a role
to adapt an attitude…

I was taught confliction
Ushered affliction
Became a contradiction
Until I unraveled with Godly conviction
And set out to pave my own course
According to biblical principles

NOTE: There are things we had no control over, beliefs and perspectives that work against good living… Regardless of upbringing, we can now decide and we do not have to remain a by-product of our environment, especially if it was dysfunctional… I have been redeemed and transformed by the renewing of my mind… Peace, love and respect… thank you for reading, listening or for doing both! Now make the choice to live better!

  1. Tony, your poem is very relatable. An engaging read. 👏🏻 It might be my computer… the audio would not play. Your voice adds another layer of engagement, but the absence of audio did not take away from the strength of your poem. Best to you! 💐

    • Thanks Michele, oh how I wanted the audio to work…it is not just your computer. It works on my computer but won’t work on my phone. I am clueless. I went to upload it again and the same..
Nevertheless, I am glad you found this to be an engaging read and the strength of the poem is still there. I really do appreciate being read by you! Have a wonderful weekend, my sweet lady🙂💖🙏🏼

  3. I am intoxicated by your words Tony. 🥴 Talk about a deep dive into your evolution. If that is a photo of your father, you look just like him my friend. I don’t know why I couldn’t get your audio, but reading your words was more potent and well worth the read. Thanks so much for gracing us with your versification my friend! 👏🏼🦋👍🏼

    • For some reason the audio is acting up… it is not your computer/phone…that’s a bummer, but I am glad the words still marched forth… and your comment breach these lips and a giant 2 for 10 smile formed.🤣🥳! The pic is actually one I took a couple months ago.

      • Oops, I think the hat threw me off on that photo. 😲 The profile photo shows your hair and your sexy smile, and the other doesn’t show you smiling, but still looking dapper no less. My bad! You should look like the photo because it is you! 😜 Now I am embarrassed! 🥵

I loved your 2 for 10 smile. That is clearly evident through your powerhouse of words you belt out my friend. Big hugs and smooches! 🤗💖😊

So elegantly expressed, such truths spoken eloquently – All you said felt so resonanat and relatable. I am so glad and grateful to now get to pave my own way, change the scripts and live with fresh perspectives.

  5. This is so wonderful, Tony. There is no beginning or end, no start or finish, no end of the road. It’s a winding journey and there will be places that overwhelm and some that coax one to move on. Life has to go on. 🙂

  6. Wonderful Tony. Truly inspiring. It’s so true that in the begining we are shaped and molded one way. But then God can take us into His hands like clay and shape us how He sees fit. We’ll always turn out for the better if we trust the creator of all to transform us by the renewing of our minds. Keep sharing the joy of your heart and the great things that God had done, it truly lifts my soul. ❤
