Beyond Words #3

Taking a look back at my motivation
stuck in a self-talk conversation
Words get me intoxicated and leave me with stimulation
I once was told communication rules the nation

Great philosophers dressed in poetry
Feather pens dipped for calligraphy
Thesaurus scanned in hand for words of rarity
Each line written for clarity

Now today,
poetry is still my forte
and I express and digest the word in every way

However
reading poetry and writing rhyme
used to be a simple past-time
feasting on lovely created punch lines
viewing everything as a potential story-line
Now I write to heal and free my mind

Express so I won’t regress and feel depressed
Expressing that I might be at my best

So I won’t write to fight…The battle is not mine
I write and recite to take flight…Reaching for the divine!

Sidebar: Has your reasoning for writing changed or the topic of your writing shifted. Has what you used to read and enjoy changed. For me in my early years was love poetry, writing poems that would fit in greeting cards. I still love that type of poetry, but I am more drawn to inspirational and healing poetry!

  1. Well, I still feel a bit like a conduit, and that the writing comes from outside to me; catching a comet by the tail sort of thing. But, I enjoy penning things that change pekoeโ€™s minds or open them in some way.

  2. Poetry is indeed your forte – you bring rhyme and rhythm to the wisdom and truths of life so beautifully. Writing has been healing and transforming for me – it continues to me, just that the raw intensity of it has softened in feeling. I love how you say – I express and digest the word in every way. I think that is why I connect with your poetry – it feels very authentic.

  3. An interesting and inspirational evolution your poetry has taken, Tony. You do have a gift for weaving rhythm with uplifting messages. You found your niche! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป Expressive writing can be very healing, in all of its forms. That is true of all art, I believe. For (too) many years my writing was academic and professional. I began my creative writing journey just over two years ago. It continues to evolve. However the words shows up, they deliver healing and a creative outlet, and some laughs too. ๐Ÿ˜

  4. Beautiful! And, yes, my writing has changed. I set out to write about being vegan and fitness with s smattering of spirituality posts. But I’ve become highly political, as our world is so unjust, and I can’t not speak about these things. Thank you for sharing your work!

  6. The poet speaks! Authentically said Tony. I think poetry is your voice and in being true to yourself you write from that place of truth. Voice is never linear or stagnant, unless youโ€™re alive but not living, and so you speak/write from your evolution be it greeting-card like or otherwise. I do enjoy your voice and how you creatively express it. Poetry is your forte. Cheers

  7. Hi Tony! I love your unique poetic style. The rhythm, rhyme and message are always so wonderful.

Yes, my reason for writing has changed. I once was lost, but now I’m found. I once wrote about a place and a love that I could only imagine. Then God found me and I began writing about the truest love there is: the love of Jesus.

My poetry used to be more fictional. Fictional ideas, sometimes fictional feelings… but now I write from the heart. Obviously you do as well. Blessings Tony. ๐Ÿ™‚

  8. I enjoy your posts! Thanks for inquiring about your readers. I didnโ€™t need to write until about ten years ago. Now I find if I donโ€™t write for a while, I get restless and irritable. Thereโ€™s many days when I think about how I would write about what I am currently doing or thinking about. This is relatively new to me.
I am currently enjoying reading memoirs, as well as fiction for less demanding reading.

  9. I’m there with you, but I really feel like I’m in a season of fire and warfare, and that’s what I’m writing (and singing) about. Could use some prayer if you’re willing, actually. ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ™

  10. beautifully expressed Tony! I love your meaningful words Tony. I will ponder more.. It seems I write because I love to write and if my words help one person and that one is only me then that has to be enough. It’s often to let people know they are not alone and to find their light. ๐Ÿ’–๐Ÿ’–๐ŸŒˆ
